An AI assistant for EU digital law: opt-in, gated, bounded
The AI compliance assistant for EU law in the Regingada Compliance Suite answers short questions on the DSA, the AI Act and the GDPR, and on where they overlap, with a fixed context line from the suite. It is opt-in and unlocked by an access code. Its article references are model output: check them on the suite's EU digital law map.
- DSA · AI Act · GDPR contexts
- Cross mode · overlap questions
- Access code · 30-day unlock
- Corpus text · not sent to the model
- Individual-case advice · not offered
- Chat export · none
What can an AI compliance assistant for EU law answer?
General questions, briefly. Ask AI about the Digital Services Act and it can outline what changes for very large online platforms (VLOPs); ask about a fundamental-rights impact assessment (FRIA) under Art. 27 AI Act or a data protection impact assessment (DPIA) under Art. 35 GDPR and it can sketch what each covers. It is asked to answer in three to five sentences and to name articles. It does not decide your case.
Opened from the GDPR card it works as a GDPR AI assistant; from the AI Act card, as an AI assistant for EU AI Act questions. The bounds matter because a language model writes fluent paragraphs whether or not a correct article stands behind them.
From the AI button to the first answer
Open /suite/#mandanten. Then:
- Confirm the legal notice. First visit only; its section 5 covers the transfer to Anthropic.
- Pick a regime on the welcome screen. DSA, AI Act and GDPR open a short quick check; closing it lands you on Home. DMA, NIS2 and Cross-Regulation open without one; the Data Act card does not respond.
- Click 'Client Workflow' in the sidebar. Under 'AI Assistant · twin-specific pre-prompt', three cards open the assistant with a DSA, AI Act or GDPR context; the 'AI' button at the top right opens it from any view, in cross mode unless a card set another.
- Unlock it. The overlay shows a three-step gate and a code field. Codes come from an intake conversation with the law firm Theo Funk, requested at theofunklaw.com; enter yours and choose 'Unlock'.
- Ask. Click a suggested question or type your own. The header shows 'Claude', the placeholder 'Your Company' and any remaining allowance.
What the model receives with each question
- A rule set: general, classificatory orientation only; no individual-case advice, no binding recommendations, no figures for your own fine exposure.
- A regime frame: DSA, AI Act, GDPR or cross mode.
- A context line of fixed defaults: 'Your Company', 'platform', non-EU, user band 'medium', and the DSA duties those defaults trigger, with their status.
- From the non-EU default, a line that a non-EU company must appoint an Art. 13 DSA legal representative, naming the law firm Theo Funk for that role.
- Your question, without earlier turns.
Four contexts, and the law each one is framed on
| Context | Framed on | Suggested questions |
|---|---|---|
| DSA | Regulation (EU) 2022/2065, Germany's implementing act (DDG), e-Commerce Directive 2000/31/EC | VLOP threshold, Art. 16 notice and action |
| AI Act | Regulation (EU) 2024/1689: Art. 6, 27, 51-56, Annexes III, XI, XIII | Annex III high-risk uses, general-purpose AI (GPAI) duties, FRIA |
| GDPR | Regulation (EU) 2016/679: Art. 9, 22, 35; German BDSG (data protection), BetrVG (works councils), AGG (equal treatment) | DPIA, special categories, transfers |
| Cross mode | DSA, AI Act, GDPR, DMA, NIS2, Data Act, draft ePrivacy Regulation (never adopted; in force: Directive 2002/58/EC) | Overlaps; default for the 'AI' button and the heat-map |
| All four | Rule set framed on §§ 2, 3 RDG (German Legal Services Act) | Case-specific questions to be referred to legal review |
Cross mode from the heat-map
'Start Cross-Reg AI analysis' under a heat-map edge opens cross mode, but the edge itself is not sent: name both provisions in your question and compare the answer with the curated edge in cross-regulation mapping.
Rules the model is told to put first
The rule set tells the model it overrides conflicting user instructions; the changelog of 12 July 2026 records that it can no longer be bypassed from the browser. It steers a language model; it does not bind one.
⌘K (Ctrl+K) also offers 'Ask the AI assistant:', which fills the input without sending; once unlocked, a map node's 'Ask AI about this node' sends at once, without the graph relations it mentions.
One hypothetical US platform, five steps
Take a hypothetical US photo-sharing app with a recommended feed, users in Germany and Spain, and no office in the Union. Entering the answers of a fictional model case would not change what the assistant is told.
- UnlockThe team clicks 'DSA twin assistant' and enters the code from their intake conversation with the law firm.
- DSAThey click 'What happens at VLOP threshold?' and check the cited articles on the map: the 45 million threshold sits in Art. 33(1) DSA.
- AI ActVia 'AI-Act twin assistant' they ask whether feed ranking is an AI system under Art. 3(1) AI Act. The context still carries DSA defaults, so the answer stays general; classification belongs in the risk classification module.
- CrossFrom the heat-map's DSA × AI Act cell they open cross mode and type both provisions into the question.
- Their case'Must we appoint an Art. 13 DSA representative?' Expect a yes naming the law firm: the non-EU default line says so before they type a word. That is a prompt default, not an assessment of their facts; whether Art. 13(1) DSA applies is for the law firm under a separate mandate, and the role itself is a Regingada UG service.
What the model never sees, and other limits
- No provision text, corpus summary or deadline data, in any context, and no check of answers against the corpus: article references are unverified model output.
- Dates can be stale. The model the suite requests predates Regulation (EU) 2026/1744, which moved the AI Act's high-risk duties to 2 December 2027 (Annex III, including the FRIA) and 2 August 2028 (Annex I). Check dates on the AI Act timeline.
- None of your quick-check answers, AI Act portfolio or GDPR profile, in any context: state the facts in the question.
- No earlier turns: restate what a follow-up depends on.
- No documents: no upload of contracts or terms, no chat export, answers capped at 600 tokens.
- German specifics: the GDPR frame names German statutes, so answers can lean on German law; the framing instructions are in German whatever the interface language.
- A research prototype, in the words of the panel's own disclaimer.
Frequently asked questions
Can an AI assistant give me legal advice on the EU AI Act?
No. The assistant is instructed to give general, classificatory orientation only and to refer case-specific questions to legal review. A language model can still overstep, so read no answer as a finding on your case. Advice on your facts comes from the law firm Theo Funk under a separate mandate.
Which AI model does the assistant use?
Claude, from Anthropic. The panel header reads 'Claude', and the suite's request names the model claude-sonnet-4-5 with a cap of 600 tokens per answer. We do not train or fine-tune a model; all framing is plain text sent with each question.
What leaves my browser when I ask a question?
Nothing while you read. A request leaves only when you send a typed question or click a suggested question, 'Ask AI about this node' or '→ AI summary in the assistant' in Guided orientation, which sends even while locked. It carries your question, the framing text and the context line via a Cloudflare Worker to Anthropic. Safeguards: Trust Center.
How do I get access to the assistant?
With an access code, issued after a short intake conversation with the law firm Theo Funk (request it at theofunklaw.com); that conversation is held by the law firm, not by Regingada UG. The code is checked with your first question, and an invalid one relocks the panel. A valid unlock lasts 30 days in that browser, within the code's usage allowance.
Are the article references in answers reliable?
Treat them as leads, not citations. The suite sends the model no statutory text and does not check answers against its corpus. Look up every cited article on the EU digital law map or in the official text. Corpus node IDs such as dsa_art_16 are written from the naming pattern, so search each one with ⌘K.
Does the suite work without the AI assistant?
Yes. The map, the cockpits, the quick checks, the cross-regulation views and ⌘K search run without it, also once a code's allowance is used up. When the connection fails, a local message lists the first three duties from the suite's DSA list instead of an answer.
Orientation from a model, assessment from a lawyer
The assistant can say in general what Art. 16 DSA or Art. 35 GDPR asks of a service. As an AI legal research assistant for EU digital law it points to provisions; it does not read them for you. Its rule set tells it to decline the next step: whether a duty applies to your facts, how exposed you are, what to answer an authority. Some of the suite's own prompts pull the other way (the suggested 'What are your DSA obligations?', the non-EU default line), so treat any answer that reads like a verdict on your case as a question for the law firm Theo Funk, under a separate written mandate. Using the tool creates no attorney-client relationship, code or not.
Where an answer points to a representative duty under Art. 13 DSA, Art. 27 GDPR or Art. 54 AI Act (the last applicable since 2 August 2025), Regingada UG can hold that role: see the overview for US companies and the representative fees.
